Did you know that before polishing, the fossilized coral gemstones look like any ordinary limestone specimen, yet, after polishing, they show a beautiful honeycomb pattern resembling the rays of the rising sun? Also, one of the names of this gemstone, which is “Petoskey stone,” is given in remembrance of an Ottawa Indian chief, Pet-O-Sega, and interestingly, “Petoskey” in the Ottawa language means “rising sun.”
