People have been talking about functional clothing for a long time. Some of the first examples are armour for warriors, fur clothing in the Arctic, and tightly woven cotton garments in hot places. The real transformation, though, began in the 20th century, especially during World War II, when military uniforms were changed to defend against heat, chemicals, and a variety of situations.
