MRI Over X-ray or Ultrasound in Complex Cases
Medical imaging plays a crucial role in diagnosing diseases accurately and guiding effective treatment. While X-ray and ultrasound are commonly used as first-line imaging tools, they may not always provide sufficient detail in complex medical cases. In such situations, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) becomes the preferred choice. At Sikund Diagnostic Centre, MRI is often recommended when advanced and precise imaging is required for accurate diagnosis. X-rays are excellent for visualizing bones and detecting fractures, lung infections, or gross structural changes. However, they provide limited soft tissue detail and use ionizing radiation. Ultrasound, on the other hand, is safe and radiation-free but depends heavily on the operator’s skill and may be limited by factors such as body habitus, bowel gas, and deep-seated organs. In complex cases involving soft tissues, nerves, spinal structures, joints, brain, or internal organs, X-ray and ultrasound may fail to reveal subtle abnormalities or the full extent of disease.
