Desert druzy was formed millions of years ago when mineral-rich water flowed around rock surfaces. As the water evaporated, the silica (present inside the water) cooled down, and minerals present in the water got left behind in the form of a layer of druzy (or sugar-like crystals) on the top of the host rock. It’s important to note that while desert druzy was formed out of silica, the presence of different minerals in this water gave rise to different druzy gemstones.
