Think termites travel only through the ground? They can also use tree roots and landscaping as part of their underground highway.
Research has shown that subterranean termites often build extensive tunnel networks around tree roots because roots help retain moisture and protect them from heat and predators. If mature trees or large shrubs are planted too close to a home, these underground tunnels can extend toward the foundation without any visible signs above ground.

This doesn't mean you should remove healthy trees. It simply means trees near your home should be regularly inspected, especially if they're showing signs of decay or have exposed roots.

The closer termites establish themselves outdoors, the shorter the journey to your home.
